I've been using fabric nappies (or diapers) in my little girl since we got home from the hospital, and I'm so excited to share my experiences with you. I was just vaguely aware of the cloth puppies before I was pregnant, and of course the idea of a cloth nanny was very old school... that is. a huge square of white towel, held together with a torture device called a snappy that needed to be excavated in a large bucket of bleach every day. Well, I couldn't have been more wrong. So grab yourself a cup of tea and get started for a mammoth of a blog (the first of many!) about how to use the nappies of fabric! Modern day-clothes puppies are a distant cry of the terry towel that our moms would have used in us growing up, and let me tell you, they're addictive! Once I dived into the rabbit hole of all things fabric, I found myself spending those nights without sleep during my pregnancy glued to nappy clothes Facebook groups of mates moms and moms-a-ser selling the pre-matured fur (the affectionate name given to cloth puppies) and scrolling through endless threads in washing routines. In these days there are so many different types of cloth puppies to choose from, fabrics to decide and folds to learn that it can be amazing overwhelming. And depending on the type of nanny you choose to use, it can also be incredibly expensive, with elegant brands and custom designs that lead to some nannies that cost R400 - R500 a pop! Clothe puppies don't have to be expensive, and they can be made in any budget. I will go through all the different types of nappies in another post, but today I will share with you my choice of fabric nappies for my newborn, what you need to start " I hope you will inspire you to start your own web trip. Let's start with the question of why you would want to choose the cloth puppies on the regular disposable puppies. {Many of this information has been taken from (SANCU)} There are so many benefits to use fabric, but here is a small list to help you with your decision: Save money (you can reuse your nappies for baby number 2 & 3 etc and even sell again afterwards if you care correctly)Best for the environment (the disposable puppies sit on dumps for years and years before breaking up...with a single child not even understanding a 4000 nappies They don't contain hydrogels that lead to less skin irritations " reactions Babysitter myths Let's put the disk right here and show you it's much easier to go along the web sitter route than you might have thought: Cloth nappies filtration Clothe puppies contain cocoa more than disposable... Clothes puppies take a long time Using fabric deafness takes 10 minutes more time a day You need a special detergent (with costly) to wash fabric The regular detergent is fine, just skip the softeningCloth nappies smells very bad √≥ No hydrogel in the fabric means anything to the grass to react with the meaning of unpleasant chemical odors You really don't save with fabric because of extragent Even when all these costs are taken into account, it is still possible to save anywhere from R11 000 - R26 000+ when using fabricThe cloud puppies delay milestones like sitting / skyscraper / walking. Clothe puppies give better hip support, are more comfortable, have extra filling to match any fall Clothe puppies are unhygienic With the fabric is disposed of where it should (in the toilet) instead of sitting in dumps. Clothes are usually washed more often than trash is eliminated. Clothe puppies are usually changed more often than disposable. Washing the puppies does not take hours and hours of their precious time. Actually, the washing machine does all the hard work for you. All you need to do is give them a quick rinse, get into the machine, and then go dry. I could follow and follow on how great the naps are, but I would give you a point in the direction of the website as it is full of everything you might want to know about the naps of fabric. You also have a fantastic Facebook page () and then there is also a fantastic Facebook group to buy and sell fabric nappies... to start.my choice of fabric nappies for newborns I will write another post on all the different types of cloth puppies, but for today I want to share with you what types I have chosen to use for my newborn, why I have chosen these particular puppies and what brands I recommend. Before going further, you should notice that there is definitely a learning curve for the cloth puppies. It takes time to learn what works best for you and your baby, and to learn how to fold the puppies to make sure you don't get any leak. I've had my fair share of the leaks and wet clothes on the decks don't fit properly, and with those slender newborn legs it can take a while to work only the right techniques to ensure the right fit for your baby. Even with the sloping curve, I love wearing cloth diapers and you get used to how 'large' their vagos are in fabric. Being a first time mother and learning how to keep a newborn, I loved having a big bum to hold on when I was wearing it. In addition, I found that most baby clothes usually fit very well on the larger canvas wagons so there is no need to worry about it at all. Planos, Precartas " Covers These are by far the cheapest way to make the nappies of fabric, but they are also the most consumed. Let me explain. Plans and pre-folders require folding, while the other types of cloth puppies are very similar to disposable design, the biggest difference is that the lavae instead of throwing them. I think the biggest motivator behind me choosing flats and decks is the challenge of these types of nappies (yup, I'm the kind of person who when it's said that I can't do something, comes out of my way to prove that people are wrong hehehehe). But also, babies grow so fast and don't stay 'newborn baby' for a long time. The plans are the most economical of the puppies, since once your baby has overcome them, they can be padded and used as a booster and added to other puppies for extra absorption. FlatsFlats are what they sound, a flat piece of fabric (usually a square) that folds and secures in place with a snappy (or a pin). The planes are made of all types of tissue (which all go in absorbence and therefore price). The cheapest fabric for floors is the cotton swab (i.e., receiving blankets). I simply cut off some cheap reception blankets that I found at PEP and my mother did something else for me out of receiving blankets that I found at a discount towels store at Joburg (the pink bunnies and grey bears that you imagine above). She doubled some of them (they put two squares together and overlocked them) and these work incredibly well during the night when my girl sleeps for longer periods of time. My absolute favorite apartments are made of hemp fabric that is the most expensive fabric. My favorite hemp apartments are (the blue ones you can see in my photos). I also have some that I ordered online from (the white cover that looks up) but I prefer the Pokkelokkie. Most fabric moms will tell you that hemp briefs make the best night puppies as hemp is the most absorbing tissue. I found my flannel floors working fantastically too! Pre-folds Pre-folds are what they sound, pre folded puppies sewn in folds to facilitate union. I have a small number of pre-carpet newborns (the brown ones I imagine above) that I like to use for day naps. I also have a small selection of small lamb puppies who brought a family member from the UK for me. From my research I read that they are an awesome solution for the night, and are perfect for those very late/very early changes of the nanny when you are still half asleep (or when Dad is in the nanny service and is not in all the plegamiento required for the floors). These are seen and worked as disposable nappies (the hairy whites that look), and fast along with the velcro. They also require a waterproof cover such as planes and pre-folders. Here are some photos of my little girl using her floors, pre-folders & Little Lamb equipped: Covers Covers are the waterproof outer shell that goes over their floors, equipped " pre-folders to ensure that their puppies do not escape. Most of the covers are made of PUL (a laminated polyester fabric) and have 'snaps' in them that are cut instead to make larger/smaller. Different brands offer different sizes. I have 10 newly born biddykins (the grey and mint sheaths shown below) that I bought second hand (or pre-loved as they are called) from a beautiful lady in Durban who never had the opportunity to use them as their girl was too big for them when she was born. You can really build your shitty clothes entirely from second-hand sales. Some items that would be hesitant to buy second hand, but cover I am all about buying pre-loved! I have a small selection of covers (the white ones you see) that have Velcro couplings; and that I also bought pre-acpreciated from a lady in the purchase " sell Facebook group (). My favorite cover to use in the last few weeks now that Everly's small legs have become fat, it's an 'OSFM' (One Size Fits Most) cover. I also asked from the UK, but you can get here in South Africa from . It is the red above. I mentioned it before the cloth puppies are addictive. Here's a picture to show you why... how beautiful this button nanny cap is. I bought this pre-loved but you can buy them here in South Africa online through TineyHiney (): I don't have a lot of pretty cards as I wanted to get as many neutral puppies as possible to use all this again for baby number 2 (and possibly number 3 and 4 too!). I have a little bigger babysitters with pretty impressions for when Everly is bigger as she will get a lot more use of them instead of younger newborn babies. Fleece's tapas are also very popular. I have a few new-size Polar Sheets (also purchased in the above-mentioned Facebook group) that work for quick naps and I like them because they are soft in the boom. I think I have enough leaks with them, but, so I only use them for short naps when I know I'll change your nanny after just an hour or so. And if you are really in a budget, Pep plastic covers (yellow, blue & pink illustrated above) work just like! I'm not as fan of them as they are very plastic and they don't breathe at all... not as pleasant for the newly born skin. But they work well and have a lot of stretching in the elastics to go through the very big and voluminous naps. These would work especially well on wipes if you really want to go to the traditional babysitter route. Inserts " Boosters To increase the absorption of your puppies, you need additional pieces of fabric called inserts or impellers. Again, hemp is the most absorbent, but it is also the most expensive. Bamboo is very popular, but the most popular tissue for inserts is microfibre. While microfibre is the cheapest option, it does not have much moisture and therefore gets compression leaks. It all depends on whether your baby is a light or heavy "pay," but usually a combination of different tissues work well (and of course this also depends on your budget). My mother made me some bamboo towel impellers and mutton fabric (which she found in different hardware stores and comes in different tissues which means different levels of softness/grease). You can increase your nappies with anything. Cotton flannel (receiving blankets) works very well, and the good of the planes and pre-folders is the can can be used to increase puppies as well. Simply fold and stick to your nanny's cover between the nanny and the cover for extra absorption, or layer inside your nanny between the owl and the babysitter itself. Extra Bits " Pieces Some of the additional pieces and pieces necessary (not all these things are necessary but are pleasant to have) for your trip from the web nanny: Spouses: I use a mix of fabric wipes & beautiful biodegradable wipes 'throwaway'. The fabric wipes are cut off from the blanket floors I've made. It's a great way to use extra pieces of fabric that could otherwise have pulled. If you have a lot of facial fabrics for your baby shower, you can also use those are wipes. Fill a small bathtub with warm water before each change and then use one of the wipes bathed in warm water to clean all the cocoa disorder. It is much more pleasant in its small background than a cold towel, especially when it is cold or in the middle of the night. Then I also use these amazing baby biodegradable wipes. I have stored in the MamaMagic exhibition in Durban, but you can also buy the 3 packs of pure towels in Dischem. Liners: Children are not necessary for newborns, but are pleasant to use. When you need to use the coatings it is when you use vague creams that are not safe from fabric like Bepanthen, Fissan or Sudocream, etc., as these creams can obstruct the natural fibers of the cloth puppies. Using the coatings protects the puppies from the cream by creating a barrier between nanny and cream. When the baby is bigger and eating solids, the coatings are a lifeguard that helps you avoid having your hands very messy. Although these liners claim to be unsound, it is not recommended that narrow them as they can block the toilets. I bought these FancyPants liners in Takealot for a price of R300 for 3, usually retailers for around R110. Biddikins also bamboo broth. I've also heard that Checkers store Cherubs lines that are much more affordable, but they always seem to be out of stock when I go shopping. Bum cream: While it is not necessary to use abyss cream with every change of poppy as you would when using disposable nappies (this is because babies in cloth puppies tend to be less prone to rashes) you can choose to use abyss creams as more than one preventive measure. As mentioned above, most commercial vagabond creams are not safe to use in fabric sotanas, and that is why it is recommended to use a lining if you use them. If a cream accidentally comes to the babysitter, you can remove it by rubbing the residue with sunlight washing liquid and an old toothbrush. Snappies: These little sharp and scratchy things are what keeps your babysitter together. Traditionally pins would have been used, and you can still use them if you are not afraid to stab your little hehe. Snappies come in all kinds of colors and you can find them in Pep and Ackermans for +- R20 for a package. I keep my nappies in the baskets of my closet in my album, but there are many creative ways to store the nappies of fabric. Here is also a picture of my change station configuration so you can see where to save everything. I found my album in an amazing second-hand store in Durban. I found the ad at Gumtree and then I headed to Umbilo to pick it up. The trick with the cloth puppies is not to put all your eggs in a basket by putting your hideout together. I recommend buying different brands and various types of nappies until you discover what works for you and your baby. I went with floors at first because they are the most versatile of the puppies and are the cheapest. They work very well for me, I don't care about the extra minute or two that I spend folding. I also have a small blanket of disposable nappies (posios) by hand, just in case. Whew!
